How To Wash Your Tractor
Tractors are most often used on farms and construction sites, both places where there’s a lot of dirt and muck for the equipment to pick up. Keeping a tractor clean can be difficult. However, the inconvenience of regular cleanings are more than worth it when it comes to keeping dirt away out of the engine and preventing long-term corrosion. This guide from SS Equipment can tell you how to be more efficient and thorough when cleaning your tractor.
1. Remove Debris
You can make the process of washing your tractor easier by removing the outer layer of muck first. Use a leaf blower to remove leaves, mud, grass, twigs, and other big pieces of debris. Be especially thorough when it comes to cleaning the undercarriage, as that part of the tractor sometimes gets ignored when cleaning.
2. Rinse & Wash Exterior
You can choose to either hand wash your tractor or use a pressure washer. If you choose to clean by hand, use a bucket of soapy water and a sponge. Rinse as you go to avoid soap build-up, and use a scrub brush or automotive brush to clean the nooks and crannies. If you decide to use a pressure washer instead of washing by hand, be careful not to directly spray delicate components such as mirrors or sensors. Take extra care not to get any water in your tractor’s engine, and wash top to bottom so that soiled water doesn’t drip down and undo your progress.
3. Dry and Apply Wax
Your next step will be to apply a coating of protective wax. However, you won’t be able to apply the wax until after the tractor has dried. Either allow the tractor to air dry, or speed up the process using an air compressor or leaf blower. Once everything is dry, apply the wax and buff it out.
4. Wipe Down Interior
Cleaning the inside of your tractor is every bit as important as washing the exterior. Use a shop vacuum to clean out your tractor’s floorboards. Don’t forget to wipe down the controls/s seating to remove any remaining traces of dirt or mud.
