The New Holland Intellifill System
Over the last few decades, technology has improved at an exponential rate. Every field and every market has changed drastically, and the agricultural community is no different. Today’s most productive farmers utilize technology that helps them improve nearly all aspects of production. One such piece of technology that’s available to you is the New Holland Intellifill™ System. We’ve taken some time to explain exactly what this system is so when you stop by SS Equipment, you can let us know if it’s right for you. We have locations across Oregon and Washington, so visit us today and let us know how we can help you.
Before the Intellifill™ System
How well you harvest your crops plays a crucial role in your yield, and of course, the first step to creating better yield is to get a better machine. New Holland forage harvesters provide optimal performance so you can make the most of your time in the field. However, in previous models, the operator was in charge of steering and controlling the harvester, directing the flow of produce, and monitoring how full the trailer was. It was a lot for one person to do.
Initially, some farmers tried standard video cameras to monitor the trailer, but this proved to be ineffective. Videos still make it difficult to accurately measure from a distance, nor can they detect trailer shape and size and are easily compromised in inefficient lighting or dusty conditions.
The next step was to try 3D near-infrared cameras, which did improve distance measurements, but they didn’t adjust fast enough for real-world conditions. Not to mention, they required lots of testing and debugging.
The Intellifill™ System Creation
This brings us to the Intellifill System. New Holland decided to use a model-based designed to speed up trial and usage. A 3D camera, mounted on the harvester spout, gathers and calculates data which then gets filtered into a controller module. The controller adjusts the spout, flow direction, the angle of the camera, and sends audio-visual alerts to the operator. New Holland also uses the Computer Vision Toolbox to monitor the camera and troubleshoot for issues.
This design was put through the ringer in order to ensure it was going to be the best product for farmers. Many field tests and improvements later, it was ready to roll out to agricultural producers all around the world. The system was so impressive that it won the gold medal for technical innovation at Europe’s largest agricultural fair, Agritechnica. It’s one of the most prestigious awards in the industry.
How the Intellifill™ System Can Help You
It might already be abundantly clear as to why you’d want the Intellifill System, but there’s a lot to appreciate about this technology. The system automatically detects trailer edges and more efficiently monitors the filling process. You’ll discharge crops with great accuracy, even by 20 meters when visibility is limited. There’s no manual calibration necessary so you can get right to work.
This ultimately improves productivity and enhances operator comfort. When you’re not looking over your shoulder constantly, you can stay focused on one particular task. This can also reduce stress levels and can even make dark hours less difficult to work in. And, of course, knowing you’re improving your harvest and your yield will take a big weight off your shoulders.
